l8r boi
to everybody in gobfans land....
i know, i know, i know, i know, i know! fuck!
it has been a very, VERY long time since i have posted on here. there really is no excuse for this kind of delay. i suck as a blogger!
as a gob blogger anyway. i'm sure that if i had a personal blog i could babble on incessantly about all kinds of retarded shit that i think about. but when it comes time to writing about the band, i draw blanks! go figure?
but the time has come and now i feel that it is my duty to personally inform you of some recent (and maybe not so recent) happenings here in the gobdom.

tours!
we have done a lot of touring since i last posted. thanks to everyone in japan, canada and the US for coming to the shows. for the most part, the shows were awesome! i'm not about to dig into my diary and give you little anecdotes from all the shows, you were there, you have your memories and if you weren't at the show, then too bad! you should come to the show next time and you'll see what it's all about.
i will say this though, japan was even better the second time. thank you Japan! (Nippon Ichi Ban!)
news!
we are no longer on arista records. i know! this is hardly "new"s but i'm sure you would like to hear it straight from us. the story is fucking boring really, we could talk for hours about arista's problems all of their firings, hirings, droppings, etc. but i am not the least bit interested in that. the bottom line is: we didn't sell a million records, so they aren't all that excited about working with gob. fortunately, we got out of our contract no problem, free to do whatever we like, and we will be happy to be on a label more suitable to gob, which brings me to the most exciting part of this post, the only part that really matters.

NEW GOB RECORD!

that's right kids! we are presently writing a new record that we aim to record sometime in the next few months. not much to say about it now, i don't want to go letting the cat out of the bag or anything.

more news.
again, most of you are already aware of this. due to artistic differences, craig wood is no longer part of gob, he will now strum his guitar for avril lavigne.
sad, but true.
we will go ahead and make our record as a 3 piece. for those that don't understand how a record is made, don't worry! there will definitely be bass on the record. it just wont be played by craig. if we find the right person by the time we record the record, they may play on it or maybe we'll get, i don't know, sid vicious, or the guy from the replacements or maybe jaco pastorius. i hear that dead guys play better. one thing i know for sure, no matter how you slice it, this record will have the best fucking bass EVER on a gob record.
anyway, good luck to craig.
in the meantime, our good friend john franco will be playing bass at our live shows. being that he is the star vocalist for the band byathread, he is overqualified for a bass only position but maybe we can get him to do some italian opera singing at our shows. anyway, it's great have him aboard.
we did a show at mount tremblant this past weekend and it was awesome. we are concentrating on writing a record so we aren't playing many shows but we do have a couple in whistler later in the month so get your asses out to rock with us.
well, I'm gonna chill with gabe and iggy.
l8r.

Our first visit to japan an earthmoving experience, literally. We were sitting backstage at our first show in tokyo minding our business, when, out of nowhere, there was a fucking earthquake! the ground was moving! it was crazy!

Barring the natural disasters, everything about japan ruled! the food. the people. even the toilets with the washlets for you to wash your ass clean after doing your business.

we made many great new friends. the kids in japan rock harder than anyone around!
i swear to god, as we were playing at akasaka blitz in tokyo (our first show in japan) the kids were going insane! I felt like dropping to my knees and crying, "we're not worthy!" we didn't get to spend much time in osaka but it seems like a rad city. i can't wait to go back.

Australia ruled too! the vegan food, unfortunately, was a little bland for my tastes. The cities, beaches and people were beautiful. but! no joeys. no koalas. no crocs. no poisonous snakes.

Next time...the outback! and surfing. the day craig and i went to the beach there were no waves. nothing. shit!

gabe and theo did have the opportunity to get hammered with russell crowe . to the point where he even accidentally forgot the cd that we signed for him.

another australia highlight was when i set my hotel room on fire in sydney. luckily no one was hurt. i wont go into details but my electric toothbrush no longer exists.

well, our european tour cancelled but i'm going anyway. i'm packing a few things into a bag and i'm off to amsterdam, paris, london etc.

all the love
tom

there is a restaurant in atlanta GA called "r. thomas deluxe grill". the food is so freaking amazing! if you are ever in atlanta, go there and have the veggie burger, i swear to god, it's the best veggieburger i have ever had. and i have had many, many veggieburgers.
we are playing tonight in duluth GA. we went to the good charlotte/newfound glory/mxpx/hot rod circuit show. it was a great show and good charlotte were super nice. joel put us on the list last minute and took good care of us. the NFG guys were super cool as well. give those guys some love when they come through your town.

just for the record, san antonio rules!
in houston TX, we played a solo show at the engine room and it rocked hard. if you came to the show and you are reading this, you rule!

we went to todd mcfarlanes office in phoenix AZ. incase you don't know who that is, he is the creator of SPAWN and the maker of many fine toys/action figures including the simpsons, bob and doug mckenzie, kiss, nhl/nfl/nba players, where the wild things are, you name it. they are definitely the coolest in the comic and toy industry in my books. anyway, todd is super cool, and terry fitzgerald, his right hand man is awesome. i scored a deadly iron maiden eddie figure signed by bruce dickinson so you know i'm stoked.

robin tha hood showed us a cool gob shirt he made. thanks dude.

soCal was insane! picture this.
jamie lee curtis was at the show hitting on us(haha!), nikki sixx from motley crue was there. was there. after our show in LBC, we went to play at the infamous viper room in hollywood. cone from sum 41 came with kelly osbourne. kelly, avril, jesse(avril's band) and david(simple plan) got on stage and sang "give up the grudge" with us. i swear to god. it was so surreal. i felt like i was in a fucking cartoon or something.
bill from giant robot magazine was hanging out. the best thing of all! ming tran came and rocked out with us!

to everyone who came to the mike bullard show that we had to cancel... sorry, i had laryngitis, i just couldn't do it. we were all sick, fighting sars. we played a show at the trasheteria in guelph ontario. the crowd was insane, it was a total punk rock show and it was awesome. i went into the audience and lost my wireless pack and someone was cool enough to hand it back to me. thanks guelph, for being so respectful, i totally appreciate that and i can't wait to come back and play for such a cool audience. last year my bag went missing at one of our shows and i never got it back so it makes me feel good to know that not all of our fans are kleptomaniacs! we played an awesome show in detroit at the shelter(8mile beotch!) and these kids from north michigan jesse and cristy drove a long way to see us and we totally appreciate them for making the trek. thanks dudes! we are currently touring with avril, simple plan & swollen members. the shows are insane.

check this out. i changed avril's name on the marquee in winnipeg. no disrespect to avril though. she's such a sweet kid. i used all the letters except an L. lates.

"foot in mouth disease" is out now. we are in Toronto right now. we have a few headlining shows around the Toronto area over the next week and we'll also be visiting muchmusic, hmv blah, blah, blah....
we shot the video for "give up the grudge" in Toronto last week, thanks to everyone who came and rocked out. the video will be aired on muchmusic april 7. as far as other video channels go...i don't know?
we just finished a tour in the eastern US with simple plan, madcap and diffuser. it was a ton of fun hanging out with those guys. again! david from simple plan was on our bus everyday. maybe we'll clear out a junk bunk and let him stay on our bus next tour. because we love him.
the first show, in tampa, theo dropped me off his shoulders, face first onto the stage. i don't know how i didn't break my face.
we missed the show in Raleigh NC, sorry to everyone who came to see us. we had problems with our bus. we arrived late but not too late to hand out free cd's to everyone.
in NYC, i went to see the latest crispin glover flick "willard". it is a horror b-movie. in it, rats tear this one guy to pieces. get this, there was a rat running around the theater eating spilled popcorn. how unsettling is that?
thanks to everyone who submitted entries for the contest. all of them were so good it was nearly impossible to pick a winner. congratulations robin the hood!
we are hitting the road with avril lavigne, simple plan and swollen members from april-june, throughout north america, japan and australia. we are probably coming to your town so come out and fucking rock!

LA
we saw marky ramone on melrose one day, he didn't even say hi, what a dick! just kidding. he's cool. we only played with him once anyway.
we went with our guitar tech sarge to barney's beanery. he was really drunk so we laughed while we kicked his ass at airhockey. we laughed harder when, in a drunken stupor, the paddle flew out of his hand and he couldn't find it. we were ejected and bob sagat saw it all.
a week later we were ejected from el capitan, this time it was foulplay on a pool table. maybe we should avoid table games. let's see...we didn't go to mexico or six flags or any of those but did hang out with MING TRAN!!! obviously that was dope. there is so much amazing food in LA. we ate at native foods, vegan express, realfooddaily but beverly soon tofu has to be about the best food you can eat. if you live in the LA area you should definitely try those restaurants.
the main reason we were in LA was to finish our record. and we did. "foot in mouth disease" will be released april1. so spread the good word.
in march we will begin touring. we'll be stopping almost everywhere in north america and we are even going to japan! so be there or be at home crying because you didn't get tickets to the gob show! sucka!

we played with social D on dec28. what can i say? social D rules! i'm not
even going to talk about new years in SD. we had great company on new years
though.

our show in oklahoma was actually really good, i used to think that oklahoma
sucked, now i think its got a little potential. well, the kids are cool
anyway.

texas tour
we met a cool lady in san antonio named GeeGee. she was funny and she wants
to cook us some good vegetarian chinese food next time we are in town. hell
yeah!
a bird shit on my hand. i was walking along minding my own business when
something green fell out of the sky and onto my hand. so that's what texas
birds think of gob?!
bfs and sp were cool. david from simple plan was on our bus more than we
were, i started to think that he was part of our band. maybe we'll ask him
to join???
jaret from bowling for soup had a baby so congratulate him if you see him.
shit, he didn't even look pregnant to me.
unfortunately, we didn't get to stop in houston or corpus this time but
texas still ruled. we'll be back in the lone star state real soon ya hear.

ok! so, this is a long one eh, cause i've been kinda busy doin' other things so just try to bear with me.

Oct 16 Freeport IL
the dude at staples was really nice so i invited him to the show.

Oct 17 Freeport IL
it's cold! from warm new orleans to this? Damn!

Oct 18 Detroit MI
we went out with our sweet arista rep. chelsea and some friends. theo and craig loaded the jukebox with motley crue and guns'n'roses so we rocked all night long. some guy kissed me. craig found strange soiled panties under his pillow. seriously.
then we went to...

Oct 19
Cleveland and the show was good.

Oct 20 Cleveland OH
erin and beth made us lasagna, even vegan lasagna for me. so i ate it and watched a movie with them, "wet hot american summer", it was a fine flick with great lines like, "i like sluts! sluts rock!". the lasagna was damn good too! the first night in cleveland i had weird dreams all night long. several lengthy, elaborate dreams. i saw whales with faces like teletubbies and tony hawk gave me a job doing, virtually nothing and some surfer dude got mad at me because he had to work harder than me.

Oct 21/02 Pittsburgh PA
the FU EP was released in canada on this day.
another guy was aggresively hitting on me, he even asked me to come home with him (i must be giving off serious gay vibes lately) but this time, he kissed theo... theo asked him to.

Oct 22 London ON
canada is nice. sorry to anyone who went to the punkorama show in TO thinking that we were playing it. obviously, we didn't.

Oct 23 Kitchener ON
my thumb exploded while we were playing. i bled like crazy. sorry to the paramedic that had to touch my bloody hand.

Oct 24 Quebec city PQ
another guy told me that i'm beautiful.

Oct 25 Montreal PQ
Nunia and Nancy rule!!!! this was Gabe's birthday. we forgot to get the crowd to sing bonne fette! to him. oops! give him birthday love to make up for it ok?

Oct 26 NYC
NYC rules. we stayed in the roger smith hotel in manhattan. we tried to go to a halloween party in NJ but it would have cost us $160 to move our van in and out of the parking lot. my advice, don't bring your car to NYC. to top it all off, poor theo got sprayed in the face by a bidet.
(bi·det)
n. A fixture similar in design to a toilet that is straddled for washing genitals and anal area.

Oct 27 NYC

Oct 28 Washington DC
we had good jamaican food at tropicana near the 930 club

Oct 29 Philadelphia PA
1208 and authority zero dumped a bucket of ice water on me while we were playing. we gave it back to them tenfold onstage right in front of the audience. bummer for them. unfortunately, our set was cut short due to the sabotage. theo smashed his guitar. i lost most of the fortune cookie fortunes i had been collecting since the beginning of tour. damn! they seemed to be truly prophetic.

well, that wraps up the punkorama tour, for us anyway. we will be on tour soon, after we finish with our new album. i will keep you posted on our progress.
until then, check this out
http://www20.brinkster.com/gobweb/multimedia/MingTran.mid
i think it is better than our version.

we needed a taxi to take us to a couple record stores in Austin TX today.
Conrad our cabdriver was very entertaining. our favorite quotes of his...
"i dont give a fuck!"
"you dont give a fuck!"
"this ain't a date!"
"you see that building ahead? please tell me you see it!"
"dont yell at me"
"is this gonna be an orgy?, or is it just in and out?"

for those who don't know, we are on tour still!
presently with: NO USE FOR A NAME, YELLOWCARD and THE EYELINERS
the tour is just fantastic! except this little cold i caught. the cold is
nearly over now, sadly, our stay on this tour is nearly over as well. but
don't worry, we'll be back on the punkorama tour in Freeport IL Oct17. Oct17
is a special day so if you are in the vicinity...GET TO THAT SHOW!
thank you Texas, it's great to be back. Austin-the crowd was insane, it was
great to see our friends Jeremy and Cassidy. San Antonio rules! LA was
awesome! and lets not forget Mesa AZ, Mesa is real swell!

our FU EP is out now in the US, if you don't have it yet, get it at an
independent store near you. now we will try to sleep in this hotel room.
damn the squeaky air conditioner.

Thursday, September 26, 2002

damn! some battery acid spilled in our trailer and SOMEHOW got into MY bag
and ruined some of my t-shirts. i have way more than enough t-shirts anyway
so it's no big deal, i guess...
we are on tour right now.
the epitaph "punkorama" tour with guttermouth, 1208 and authority zero. all
the shows have been really good but, standouts were...ahem..
Seattle, Boise and SLC. those kids were crazy. thanks!!
music millenium in portland is a really cool record store, we went there and
met terry(the owner),i swear he is actually weird al but he denies it.
craig cut my hair, i think he did a really good job, maybe he could become a
hairdresser when he grows up. gabe jogged 4 miles today, not bad for a
smoker eh? theo? he is STILL stinking up the van and has been joining
guttermouth onstage to play the pirate song nightly. we are in denver and
well, i have to go to a record store now. bye.

ATTENTION ALL HOSERS! good news! the EP is coming out in canada after all.
i know some of you already know this. now you all know. so pick it up when it is
released oct15. It'll be fairly cheap.

a film you should look out for. "suddenly naked"
it has more than a few references to gob and features a couple gob songs
during the film. check it out. i saw it last night and it was very good.

i will chill on the movie recommendations but i have to mention another...
"FUBAR"
we recorded a cover of a kick-axe(canadian/80's/hair-metal) song for the
soundtrack. our version even includes a guest vocal by the original lead
screamer from kick-axe. anyhow, the film is a mockumentary about two
headbangers whose sole purpose in life is to get wasted shotgunning beers
and to "give-er". you will love it or you will have no right to praise the
mullet.

jill in minneapolis parked in the wrong place and got a boot on her car last
time she came to see us in minneapolis. oops. she has a website dedicated
to us! it's good, check it out www.angelfire.com/punk3/gob0
paul and crew showed us a good time in minneapolis, thanks! we are coming
back to minneapolis sept30. our film of the night was "cadillac man", i
didn't make it all the way through. propane was leaking out of theo's ass, i
think it put me to sleep.
ok, a little news. we have an EP coming out in Roctober. it is titled the
F.U. EP it is a US only release. it has 2 exclusive songs "LA song" and
"sick with you" and one, "ming tran" from our upcoming record. the rest are
selections from our 3 previous albums. 9 songs total.
the album has been recorded and has a tentative release of around...
feb/mar.03. sorry about the wait but it will be well worth it.

blog entry #1

we played in milwaukee last night and it was rad. milwaukee is the best, not
just because of "laverne and shirley", or "the promise ring" or "milwaukee's
best" but because milwaukee rocks! thanks to the girls who lied to their
parents about the whereabouts of the show, so their parents would let them
come. we will be back in milwaukee on sept29 with the punkorama tour with
guttermouth so be there! last night we watched "a nightmare on elm street"
on the bus. check it out if you havent already. it's not as good as "the
texas chainsaw massacre" but it's pretty good and scary. it was scarier
however, when our bus driver, James Dean(it's his name. no shit.) with his
adventurous driving styles, got our bus stuck in a ditch on some country
road near Menomonie WI and we had to TRY to push the bus. yeah right!
anyway, this is a new blog we have set up to keep you in the loop. i(we)
will try to update this regularly to let everyone interested know what is
going on in the world of gob. check out the message board too!
