When the picture pops up in the new window: Macs: Drag the image to your desktop. select "appearance" in the control panel and set as the desktop background. Try this first: start up your instant messanger. Then click on one of these icons. 90% of the time that should do it. just say "ok" when it asks you whether you want to choose the picture as your aim icon.

If that doesn't work...

PCs: Right mouse click on it and choose the option to "save picture" or "save picture as" and then follow the steps below.

1. In Instant Messager, Click the "Browse PC" button.

2. Find the icon on your computer and select it. That icon will now appear when you receive IMs from your buddy.

Macs: drag the picture to your desktop. Find the aim icons folder by doing a search on your computer for "AIM" or "buddy." Then drag the image into the icons folder. In Instant Messenger, go to "Account Settings" and select the icon gif.
